Not earth shattering news but I believe it’s worth a mention. We have recently added a new page to the directory, the page is just for fun and for passing time and offers free sudoku puzzles. We are using a unique flash script that has three difficulty levels. The main reasons we added this page are two. First of all sudoku is one of my favorite games and the second reason is that our aim here is to build a useful website that will offer links to quality Internet resources but will also offer things that our visitors will be able to enjoy on our site (we are planning quite a few additions).
Now for those of you that don’t know what sudoku it’s a logic puzzle that has it’s roots back in ancient times. For more information about it and how it is played I would recommend you to take a look at the wikipedia article about it.

As you may have noticed, we have closed free submissions. Let me say first of all that we will probably reopen them in the future. This was decided for several reasons.
The main reason that we took that decision was that the backlog kept growing and we need to deal with it before we accept any more free submissions. However, as you can understand in order to avoid this happening again in the future we need to develop a few automation mechanisms that will help as speed up the review process. So by closing free submissions not only will we be able to clear the backlog but it will also give as the time to develop these automations.
Of course during the time that submissions will be closed we plan on working on a few more features that we believe will add value to the listing within our directory. Some of those are going to be visible and some others will be just work behind the scenes.
In the meantime, we will only be accepting paid submissions. The prices are low as always ranging from 5.95$ to 44.95$ in order to allow anyone to submit his site(s) to our directory.

Stock photos are an essential part of web design. There are a number of stock photo agencies offering high resolution and high quality stock photos, the only problem is that for most people that are just creating a personal website or blog the prices are really high. For this case we have to look for free stock photos and luckily there are a number of sites offering free stock photos. Here is a list of sites where you can find stock photos:

Stock Exchange: Probably the most well know free stock photo archive and not without a reason.

Morguefile: One of my favorites with a huge selection of good quality free stock photos.

StockVault: Offers mainly high resolution free textures for download.

FreePhotosBank: A nice collection of free stock photos.

FreeImages.co.uk: Offers more than 2500 images for free download.

YotoPhoto: Not exactly a free stock photos archive but a free stock photos search engine.

OpenClipart: Large library of public domain clipart and illustrations.

Those are the ones I use the most, if you know of other useful resources don’t hesitate to comment.

Choosing the color scheme for a web site is probably one of the most important parts of the process of creating the design. We thought, that since most of our visitors are webmasters and web designers, it would be helpful to create a list of free online color tools.

Color Blender: Calculates up to ten midpoint colors between two colors.

I like your colors: Extracts the colors used from a selected URL.

ColorSchemer Online: Creates a twelve colors palette from an RGB or HEX value.

Color Tool: An Ajax color tool that allows you to create color schemes and save them, one of the latest color tools that I have found and one of the most useful too.

Color Converter: Converts colors between RGB, CMYK, HSV and Pantone.

ColorToy 2: Flash tool that generates a nine colors, color scheme from an RGB or a HEX value.

Color Palette: Generates 10 shades of a base color by blending it with two other colors of your choice.

Technicolor: Creates a twelve colors scheme from a base color and also provides a preview of how the colors would look on a website.

EasyRGB: A really nice collection of online color tools.

Color Palette Generator: Generates a color palette from any image.

ColorBlender: Generates a six colors palette from an RGB or HSV value.

ColorMatch 5k: Probably one of the first ever online color tools that was used by some of the other color tools as a base.

Color Schemes Generator 2: One of my favorites, it creates just a 4 colors palette (which is more than enough for web design) but also creates variations of that palette like pastel, dark pastel, Contrast etc.

Color synthAxis: A rather complicated flash color tool but really useful and fun at the same time.

Unsafe Colormatch: Let’s you choose a color scheme and preview it at the same time using a demo template.

We are glad to announce the release of the squareweb Wordpress theme. We decided to release it for free under under a creative commons licence. You can freely use it for your blogs.

Oh yes, if you want a preview just take a look at this blog, it’s the squareweb theme that we are using for our own blog, that’s how much we like it. As you can see it’s a fixed width two column wordpress theme (sidebar on the right) that uses orange as it’s primarycolor. We also created a test blog here however there isn’t much to see there.
